Key Guide Takeaways

A first-person account of rafting the iconic Ayung River in Ubud. Ancient carvings, Class III rapids, and unforgettable jungle scenery.

The Sacred Ayung River: Bali’s Longest Waterway

Flowing over 68 kilometers from the northern volcanic ridges of Kintamani down to the Badung Strait, the Ayung River cuts a dramatic canyon through the heart of Ubud. Its waters are considered sacred by Balinese Hindus and have nourished riverbank rice terraces for over a millennium.

Navigating Class II and III Rapids

The 10-kilometer rafting course features 33 distinct rapids graded Class II to III. This is the sweet spot for adventure: exciting drops, swirling whirlpools, and thrilling splashes, yet completely safe for first-time paddlers and children aged 7 and above.

The Ancient Ramayana Stone Carvings

Roughly halfway through the voyage, the canyon walls narrow into towering basalt cliffs adorned with hundreds of meters of intricate stone reliefs depicting the Hindu epic Ramayana. Sculpted directly into the living rock face by master Ubud artisans, this open-air museum can only be seen from the river.

Post-Rafting Amenities: Showers and Hot Buffet

At the finish point, guests step out onto our private river dock and ascend to our panoramic restaurant. Hot showers, fresh cotton towels, and an authentic Balinese buffet including Nasi Goreng, chicken satay with peanut sauce, and seasonal tropical fruits are waiting.
